This work records an important memory of the “rebirth of Observational Astronomy in Brazil” that took place in the second half of the last century, and in which the author Paulo Marques dos Santos personally participated as an astronomer and meteorologist. Limited print edition distributed by the IAG to scientists and institutional libraries.

Allure of the Universe (BOOK IN PORTUGUESE)

The book was edited by Prof. Dr. Augusto Damineli and Prof. Dr. João Steiner as part of the celebrations of the International Year of Astronomy (2009). Print editions of “Fascínio da Universo” were distributed free of charge in schools, and the digital edition can be downloaded on this website.

Astrobiology: an emergent science (BOOK IN PORTUGUESE)

The book is an introduction to astrobiology and brings together texts by researchers from different scientific areas, which approach from the origin of life, going through the moons of our Solar System with possible conditions to shelter life, to interstellar travel and exoplanets that were discovered in recent years.

Edited by Prof. Dr. Enos Picazzio, the book was supported by the Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and offers an introduction to astronomy for educators and beginners. The chapters were written by professors Augusto Damineli, Eder Cassola Molina, Gastão B. Lima Neto, Jane Gregorio-Hetem, Roberto Costa, Vera Jatenco and Walter Maciel, in addition to the specialized journalist Ulisses Capozzoli.

A summary of Plato's “Timaeus” dialogue is presented in a contextualized way and preserving its general structure. We take the opportunity of this presentation to briefly discuss the unfolding of the seminal cosmological ideas of this dialogue within the scope of History and Philosophy of Science, until reaching contemporary Cosmology.
